September 30th marks the National Day For Truth and Reconciliation.
This day is intended to honour the children who were lost from, and those who are survivors of the residential schools, along with their families and communities, and is a key part of the route to reconciliation in Canada.
In recognition and respect of this path, Whitecap Resources implemented the Truth and Reconciliation Education Scholarship Fund for Indigenous students, to provide support in further advancing their education at a post-secondary institution of their choice. Whitecap matched donations made by our management team, our Directors and employees toward this fund.
We encourage everyone to take the time to learn more about the residential schools and about the culture of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples in Canada. What is referenced as Orange Shirt Day provides Canadians an opportunity to wear orange to raise awareness and honour those who survived the loss of their culture, language and identity. To learn more, a link is included here from the Government of Canada website: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/national-day-truth-reconciliation.html.
Whitecap's community investment policy is focused on supporting charities with an emphasis on children's health, education and wellness. In the communities in which we operate and live, we look to our employees for interests and causes that are close to their hearts and families.
